France and their part in ww1 We had the second largest empire in the wold right behind britain. We had an alliance with Britain and Russia the mother country. In both Germany and our Nationalist feelings were strong. Germany was proud of their industrial and military progress and also France wanted to regain as the top country in all of europe. But the reason we got involved with the war was Germany declared war on Russia and Russia asked us to help them and give full support so we gave full support and then Germany declared war on us. Then Britain responded by aiding us. The assasination of the archduke Francis Ferdinand. It all started when the Archduke Francis Ferdinand decided to visit Sarajevo the capital of Bosnia. When he announced that he was going to visit it made the serbs nationalists angry. The surbs veiwed Austrians as foreign opposers. So as soon as the group called the Black Hand decided to kill the Archduke and on a nice summer day when the Archduke and his wife where taking a ride through the town. The gunman walked out of a deli and pulled a gun on the Archduke and his wife killing them both. MY STORY Hello my name is Theo Gillion and i am a french teenager and i am 17 years old and last year i joined the war i am now writing this story on the front lines i am now positioned somewhere in loraine, France. I am stuck in a trench with about 50 other men and since the machine gunners on both sides are making it very difficult for us to move its created a stalemate. My part in the war when i joined the French army I signed up to be a sharp shooter. As soon as i joined the army they knew I would be a great hero because of my quick and persice shot at long distances. My first kill in the war was a mostly difficult shot because I hadnt earned my rank as a sniper yet i still had a Lebel 8mm rifle. I was atop a building when i saw a lone german scouting the streets looking for good positions for the german forces to move to. He kept on running back and forth so i got my squad leaders attention and ask if i could make the shot he just laughed and said not even an experienced sniper could hit a man that far away. I said ill prove it to yeah if i hit and kill that german scum with one shot i get your gun and if i miss ill give you half my rations at lunch. he agreed and i took in my sight and started to breath really slow until i was hardly moving the man was running so i had to aim a little ahead of him and as soon as he took another quick dash across the road BANG! the shot went off and my squad leader shacks my hand for my first confirmed kill and for one as far as 100 yards he handed me his U.S. Springfield with the scope add so i could aim even better. Our squad leader was an american thats why I got a Springfield and i love it so far ive gotten 20 confimed kills and all of them were head shots.
